Marlborough annual calendar of events

on 06 April 2016.

On any given week there are dozens of small but fascinating events happening in Marlborough. The Town Council website will have the most up to date, day by day listings of what's going on in the town. Below are the major events which happen every year and which you might wish to make the focus of your visit.

MARLBOROUGH SPRING FAIR. 9th April, 10am-4pm at Marlborough College SN8 1PA. Held every April, the Marlborough Spring Fair is a Cancer Research UK fundraiser which hosts some fabulous exhibits from the world of homes and gardens with other stallholders. The perfect opportunity to get inspiration for your home and garden improvements. www.marlboroughcancerresearch.org

BARBURY INTERNATIONAL HORSE TRIALS 6-9th July. A big fixture on the local calendar, Barbury Horse Trials offer top class horses and riders from the worlds of eventing and showjumping as well as a host of exhibits and equine related retail opportunities! www.barburyhorsetrials.co.uk

MARLBOROUGH SUMMER SCHOOL 9th July - 5th August Each year for four weeks, Marlborough College throws open its doors and gives outsiders access to its impressive facilities through a diverse programme of courses. They describe their schedule as having 'something for everyone' with diverse courses in everything from tennis and fly fishing to Argentine Tango and learning to play the accordion. http:///summerschool.co.uk

MARLBOROUGH JAZZ FESTIVAL 14-16th July. Due to problems with getting adequate road closures from the local authority, this year the Jazz Festival is happening in a somewhat condensed form at the Town Hall with performances from Gabby Young, Clare Teal, Greg Abate and Robin Jones marlboroughjazz.com

MARLBOROUGH LITERATURE FESTIVAL 28th September - 1st October Well organised and always with a fascinating programme of speakers, the Marlborough Literature Festival is committed to celebrating the best in writing, drawing fascinating figures from the world of history, politics, fiction, biography, poetry and fiction to speak about their work. Unlike some of the more tight-fisted literary festivals which have sprung up all over the country, Marlborough believes in paying its authors for their trouble. www.marlboroughlitfest.org

MOP FAIR 7th & 14th October Originally held as hiring fairs where farm and rural craft workers came to find jobs, Marlborough's Mop Fair is over 250 years old. The focus moved from employment to leisure in the 1800s and these days the event is a two day fun fair which fills the broad High Street. The event is held on the closest Saturday to St Michaelmas Day

FEAST OF FOOD 22nd October Described as 'the best food and drink festival in the West of England', Marlborough's Feast of Food is an annual event organised by Cancer Research UK which takes over the town for a day to showcase some of the best local producers of food and drink and includes lots of free tasting! This year's event will be held on Saturday 22rd October.
